Mukteswar is a town situated in Nainital district in Uttarakhand. Situated at a little over 7500 feet, Mukteswar is a nice quaint place to enjoy nature and relax.

Mukteshwar offers distinctly visible 180 degree views of the majestic Himalayan range. Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Nandaghunti, Trishul and Panchachuli are the major peaks visible from Mukteshwar.

Jim Corbett, renowned hunter and nature lover, came to shoot a tiger here and fell in love with the place. He has mentioned about Mukteswar in his book “The Man eaters of Kumaon”.

Throughout the year. Visitors in monsoon need to be careful about possible landslides on roads as rains during monsoon is generally quite heavy.

What is quite ironical is that the flow of tourists in the best possible time to visit Mukteswar, that is from October to March, is quite less.

Most tourists rush to the place only during summers when temperature soars high in the plains. Snowfall is quite common in Mukteswar during late December and January.

Mukteswar is a place to laze around and enjoy breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks and valleys. Visitors can go on to see Mukteswar Dham, which is a 350 year old Shiva temple, However, the place was in worship, according to local traditions, for several centuries.

Chauli Ki Jali, located behind the cliff of Mukteshwar temple, is quite an attraction offering magnificent views of valley 2000 feet below.

Tourists can also visit Methodist Church in Mukteswar. They can also visit Dhanachuli, a tiny hamlet, located just a few kilometers from Mukteswar. This gives a good glimpse of rural life of Uttarakhand. Besides some lovely views of Himalayan peaks, this places gives an opportunity to enjoy dense forest and apple orchards.

During winters tourists can enjoy snowfall in Mukteswar. Mukteswar also offers plenty of trekking and hiking opportunities. One can enjoy waterfalls hidden from main views during these treks and hikes.
